Presentation Skills for Life Science Professionals
Any scientific breakthrough, technical achievement or medical discovery is only as
good as your ability to clearly and concisely explain it to others in language they
can understand and relate to.
Whether you are standing behind a lectern looking at the faces of hundreds of your colleagues as you are about to present a scientific paper, staring into a handful of microphones or notepads of reporters as they ask you questions about results of your latest trial, or simply preparing a talk for your colleagues at the hospital, you will need good communication and presentation skills.
This training program will give you the concrete insights and guided
practice necessary to develop your expertise as a speaker to its next level.
In this program you will:
- Develop techniques for delivering scientific information to groups of any size,
- Discover how to create emphasis and to draw attention to specific data
points in rooms where laser pointers are ineffective,
- Practice internationally-tested heuristics for developing messages tailored
for specific audiences,
- Become adept at anticipating and responding to questions,
- Develop a refined sense of pace and the power of the pause,
- Increase your awareness of and ability to use techniques to connect with
the audience, even in large rooms, and
- Build on your current skills to ensure that when you present you sound and look
your absolute best.
All participants will record a short baseline presentation followed by a series
of videotaped exercises which will reflect your improvement during this two day
program.
Presentation Skills for Life Sciences Professionals is designed specifically for
experienced professionals who want to improve their communication skills. In
particular, this program will allow participants to develop a persuasive edge that
will help them to give more effective presentations both internally and externally.
Participants in the program will become more:

- Captivating (someone who can be remembered and worth staying awake for).
The program will cover:
- Performance Anxiety,
- Developing a Best Natural Style,
- Eye Focus,
- Building a stronger Communication Impact through the interplay between words,
voice, and body language,
- Messaging Strategies,
- Visual Aids and PowerPoint, and
- Question & Answer Techniques.
Participants will be taped throughout the program with both group and
one-on-one discussion of the tapes. There will also be an overnight assignment.
