Seminar Agenda
Power Presentations® Seminar
Pre-Program
Each session of the Power Presentation seminar is tailored to meet the specific needs of participants.
Prior to the seminar, each participant will submit a detailed questionnaire and participate in a personal interview in order to highlight individual needs and skills to be targeted for development during the seminar.
Day 1
Establishing your presence
This unit is the foundation of the seminar and addresses the factors that link leadership and communication.
Discussion centers on the special traits exhibited by leaders and how those characteristics are demonstrated to followers. Goal-setting for the seminar takes place.
Live and videotaped exercises show you:
- How to forge a bond between your communication and leadership styles in order to become a more effective leader;
- How to boost your charisma, the secret weapon that helps drive your message home; and
- How to leverage your personal attributes for maximum impact.
Building credibility
See yourself as others see you. What do you do well when you are in the spotlight? What needs to change?
How can you be perceived as stronger, more commanding, and more affable? What is happening subliminally that undermines your message and authority?
Discussions, videotaped exercises, in-depth critiques, and an overnight assignment to show you:
- How to launch a counterattack on "nerves," with techniques to stay unruffled and levelheaded in even the most tense situations;
- How to take control of the effect your words, voice, and body have on listeners;
- How to develop the subtle traits of leadership, such as a positive body language, that encourage the support of others; and
- How to energize your voice to add focus to your words and spirit to your message.
Day 2
Getting results with the PREP Process ModelTM
The messages of a leader are different from the messages of a manager.
Leaders win hearts and engage minds. They are adept at cutting to the core of an issue and making their message speak to each individual listener.
In this unit, you will learn to tailor your words to achieve maximum impact. You will study audience analysis techniques and learn to craft your message accordingly.
Discussions, a step-by-step PREP Process Modeling guide, videotaped exercises, in-depth critiques, and an overnight assignment will help you learn:
- How to choose the strongest, most persuasive words to articulate your ideas;
- How to structure your material so you speak directly to the needs of your listeners and motivate, rather than just inform;
- How to edit your message, keeping it simple without sacrificing key information; and
- How to enrich your presentations with high-impact visuals incorporating the essentials of color, layout, typography, and presentation graphics.
Day 3
Making it stick
The third day is devoted to practicing your new presence, physical actions, and messages.
You will present to the group, take a hard look at the videotape with your coach, and discuss what has improved and what can still be improved. Then, you will do it again.
Discussion, videotaped exercises, and in-depth critiques will teach you:
- How to take charge of Q&A sessions, anticipating questions and keeping your cool when the going gets rough;
- How to make a consistent statement with your appearance, gestures, stance, voice, eye contact, message, and communication strategy all in sync; and
- How to stay on track after the seminar with steps to take on the job that will optimize your time spent at the Power Presentations seminar.
