Establishing Your Presence
In this unit, we lay the foundation for our work, the "why" that links leadership and communication. We discuss the special traits exhibited by leaders, how those characteristics are demonstrated to followers, and translate them into goals for your activities over the next three days. Once your recognize why communication skills are so important to your effectivness as a leader, you will be prepared to tackle the real work, the "how." What do you do well when you are in the spotlight? What needs to change? How can you be perceived as stronger, more commanding, more affable, etc.? What is going on subliminally that undermines your message and authority? We will ferret out your "power robbers" and replace them with techniques that maximize your impact. Day 2
Getting Results with the PREP Process ModelTM
A leader's messages are different from those of run-of-the-mill managers. How? Leaders win hearts and engage minds. They are adept at cutting to the core of an issue and making their message speak to each individual listener. In this unit you will learn to tailor your words to achieve maximum impact. You will study audience analysis techniques, crafting your content to meet their needs. Discussions, a step-by-step PREP Process Model planning guide, videotaped exercises, in-depth critiques and an overnight assignment will help you:
Day 3
Making it Stick
The third day is devoted to practicing your new presence, physical actions and messages. You will present to the group, take a hard look at the videotape with your coach and discuss what has improved and what can still be better. Then you will do it again.
