Establishing Your PresenceDay 2
In this unit, we lay the foundation for our work, the "why" that links leadership and communication. We discuss the special traits exhibited by leaders, how those characteristics are demonstrated to followers, and translate them into goals for your activities over the next three days. Discussions, exercises, (both live and videotaped) and critiques help you:Building Credibility
- Forge the bond between your approach to communication and your ability to be a more effective leader.
- Boost your charisma, the secret weapon that helps drive your message home.
- Leverage your personal attributes for maximum impact.
Once your recognize why communication skills are so important to your effectivness as a leader, you will be prepared to tackle the real work, the "how." What do you do well when you are in the spotlight? What needs to change? How can you be perceived as stronger, more commanding, more affable, etc.? What is going on subliminally that undermines your message and authority? We will ferret out your "power robbers" and replace them with techniques that maximize your impact. You'll see yourself as others see you and take charge of your presence. Discussions, videotaped exercises, in-depth critiques and an overnight assignment help you:
- Launch a counterattack on "nerves," with techniques to stay unruffled and levelheaded even in the most tense situations.
- Take control of the effect your words, voice and body have on listeners.
- Develop the subtle traits of a leader, such as positive body language, that encourage the support of others.
- Energize your voice to add focus to your words and spirit to your message.
Getting Results with the PREP Process ModelTMDay 3
A leader's messages are different from those of run-of-the-mill managers. How? Leaders win hearts and engage minds. They are adept at cutting to the core of an issue and making their message speak to each individual listener. In this unit you will learn to tailor your words to achieve maximum impact. You will study audience analysis techniques, crafting your content to meet their needs. Discussions, a step-by-step PREP Process Model planning guide, videotaped exercises, in-depth critiques and an overnight assignment will help you:
- Choose the strongest, most persuasive words to articulate your ideas.
- Structure your material using our exclusive T-Bar method, so you speak directly to the needs of your listeners and motivate, rather than simply inform.
- Edit your message, keeping it simple without sacrificing key information.
- Enrich your presentations with appealing, high-impact visuals; learn the essentials of color, layout, typeface, and presentation graphics.
Making it Stick
The third day is devoted to practicing your new presence, physical actions and messages. You will present to the group, take a hard look at the videotape with your coach and discuss what has improved and what can still be better. Then you will do it again. Discussions, videotaped exercises and in-depth critiques will help you:
- Take charge of your Q&A sessions, anticipating questions from the audience and keeping your cool when the going gets tough.
- Make a seamless statement with your appearance, gestures, stance, voice, eye contact, message and communication strategy all in sync.
- Stay on track after the seminar: steps to take on the job that will optimize your time spent at Power Presentations.
